1.   Q: HOW MUCH DOES TESTING COST?

The total cost of the pre-interview testing is $210.00 (tax included).

2.   Q: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO RE-TEST?
The fee to retest is $67.62 (tax included) per component.

3.   Q: HOW DO I KNOW IF A PARTICULAR TEST DATE IS STILL AVAILABLE?
If you register on or before our stated deadline for that particular date, you will be guaranteed a seat for that test date.

4.   Q: CAN I RESCHEDULE MY TEST DATE?
Yes, to reschedule your test date, use the on-line rescheduling options or contact the office at 1-800-429-7728 . Please refer to the test dates available on the website for alternate dates. A fee of $25.00 payable at the time of rescheduling by Visa or Master Card is required.

5.   Q: CAN I REGISTER PAST THE TEST DATE DEADLINE?
Yes, however subject to availability. If we are able to accommodate your late registration you will be charged a $25.00 late registration fee payable upon registration with Visa or Master Card.

6.   Q: WHAT PAYMENT METHODS ARE ACCEPTED?
ATS accepts certified cheques, money orders, VISA and MasterCard payments. ATS does not accept personal cheques.

7.   Q: HOW LONG DOES THE TESTING TAKE?
The entire testing process takes approximately 4 to 5 hours to complete, and all 3 components are completed on one day.

8.   Q. WHAT DOES THE PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST CONSIST OF?
The Physical Fitness Test consists of push-ups, flexibility, curl-ups and a shuttle run.  For more information, please review "Testing Information" in the Special Constable link.

9.   Q. HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR THE PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST?
Please visit the "Testing Information" in the Special Constable link for information on
essential ingredients for the development of a sound fitness program.

10. Q. DO YOU HAVE STUDY TIPS FOR THE GATB AND WPT TESTS TO HELP PREPARE FOR TEST DAY?
GATB Sample Questions are available, and WPT information is available on the "Testing Information" page under Special Constable.

11.  Q. IS THE WPT THE SAME AS THE WCT?
No, the Writing Process Test (WPT) and Written Communication Test (WCT) differ.  The WPT is
designed to directly measure the quality of a written composition based on a standard topic.  The WCT evaluates the candidate's ability to organize information in a clear, coherent and comprehensive manner, and to make conclusions from given facts.

12.  Q: HOW LONG ARE THE RESULTS VALID FOR?
The GATB and WPT results are valid for a period of 3 years, and the Physical Fitness is valid for 6 months. 

13.  Q: CAN I WRITE THE TESTS OUTSIDE OF MY AREA?

Yes, you are free to travel to any of our test centre locations regardless of where you reside.

14.  Q: WILL I RECEIVE MORE INFORMATION ON THE TESTS AND PROCESS?
Yes, when you register for a test date, and payment is received in full, we will forward you a confirmation package with more information about the tests, as well as the location, time, and test-day instructions.

15.  Q: HOW DO I KNOW THAT I’M REGISTERED?
ATS will mail/email you a confirmation package that includes your test date, registration time, a map, test day instructions and several documents to be completed. If you have not received the confirmation package one week prior to your test date, or unsure if your registration was received, please contact the ATS office.

16. Q: DO I HAVE TO COMPLETE THE DOCUMENTS IN THE CONFIRMATION PACKAGE EACH TIME I TEST?
Yes, it is a requirement of Applicant Testing Services that all applicants testing or retesting, complete these documents. Failure to complete and submit will result in a delay in the processing of your results.

17.  Q: WHERE CAN I USE THE RESULTS (Special Constable Test Results Profile)?
You can use the results with any organization requiring an ATS Special Constable Test Results Profile.

18.  Q: HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT IF UNSUCCESSFUL ON THE TESTS?
The first time you
do not meet standard with the GATB and/or WPT, the waiting period to retest is 3 months from your test date.  For each subsequent attempt, the waiting period to retest is 6 months from your test date.

19.  Q: HOW DO I REGISTER FOR A TEST DATE?

Registration is available online (through the Registration link) or by calling the ATS office.

20.  Q: HOW LONG UNTIL I RECEIVE MY RESULTS?
An ATS Special Constable Test Results Profile will be mailed to you within 7-10 business days from your test date.

21.  Q. I HAVE COMPLETED TESTING IN THE CSS, ARE ANY OF MY RESULTS TRANSFERABLE?
No, the tests you completed for the Constable Selection System are entirely different from the Special Constable testing.  Under CSS, you complete the PATI, WCT and PREP, and for Special Constable you are required to complete the GATB, WPT and Physical Fitness.

22.  Q: HOW DO I KNOW WHO’S HIRING AT ANY GIVEN TIME?
ATS provides a Recruiting Page on our web site that has postings for positions currently available in Ontario. If there is a specific service/organization that you’re interested in that is not listed, you may want to contact them directly, as not all services advertise on the Internet or contact ATS about their hiring initiatives.

23.  Q: DOES ATS OFFER FEEDBACK ON UNSUCCESSFUL TESTS?
Yes, included in your test results package, is general feedback information and improvement strategies.
