Reporting to a Sergeant, the Special Constable is responsible for law and regulation enforcement as well as security and crime prevention on the university campus. Responsibilities include: enforcing criminal and provincial statutes; city bylaws; enforcing University regulations; addressing safety and security issues on campus; handling lost/found articles, responding to emergencies and providing other various police service.

Requirements of the position include: Graduation from a recognized Police College or a diploma from a recognized Community College Law Enforcement/Police Foundations program is required as well as related experience in a police and/or security environment. You must have current certificates, at time of application, in: OACP certificate, First Aid and CPR and possess a valid Ontario full class “G” Driver’s Licence. Knowledge and experience with; community-based policing, educational community setting with high residential population, diverse groups, and strong experience with and knowledge of human rights issues.  Strong written and oral communication, active listening and report writing skills are required with solid knowledge and experience with relevant current legislation.  Interpersonal, teamwork and demonstrated ability to partner and build relationships and strong emergency and conflict management skills and ability to solve problems and make decisions is required. Applicants must meet the requirements to be appointed as a Special Constable and be able to pass mandatory Use of Force training annually. In addition you must be willing and capable of working rotating shift work.

Candidates selected following initial interview must complete and be able to pass a psychological test, use of force test, a security clearance, a background investigation, and reference checks before final selection of employment.

Salary Rate:           $49,281.02 per annum, start rate
