ST. THOMAS FIRE DEPARTMENT

Announces the recruitment for Firefighter Hiring Pool

These position(s) offer the candidate(s) the opportunity of a long and rewarding career in firefighting while performing a variety of functions within the St. Thomas Fire Department.

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

    Legally entitled to work in Canada

    Minimum 18 years of age

   Valid Driver's License with no more than 6 demerit points (must present a  Statement of Driving Record from the Ministry of Transportation at interview)

    DZ License (must have at time of application - photocopy)

  20/30 uncorrected binocular visual acuity (testing to be conducted at comprehensive medical)

   No significant abnormalities in color vision (must be able to pass Ishihara or Farnsworth D-15 Color Vision Test); (testing to be conducted during comprehensive medical)

    No significant hearing abnormalities in each ear (testing to be conducted during comprehensive medical)

  Secondary School Diploma or equivalent (must have documentation available with application)

  Firefighter Physical Fitness Test or Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) required. Valid results required upon conditional offer of employment.

   Basic CPR (Level C) and Advanced First Aid (must have documentation available with application - photocopy)

   ATS Test Results Profile (valid CPS Entry Level Firefighter Test Score of 80% or greater)

    Must possess strong swimming ability (Scuba diving certification preferred)

  Firefighter Training Program required (NFPA – National Fire Protection Association 1001) OR (Ontario Firefighter Certification with firefighting experience) OR (Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training program) - (documentation must be available with application - photocopy)

  Firefighter experience (Full -Time or Volunteer) an asset.  Candidates currently working full time as a Firefighter are required to participate fully in the pre-interview screening process with ATS.

     Ability to cope in high stress situations

     Ability to work as a team member

     Knowledge of local community an asset
