Toronto Parking Enforcement - Qualifications

To be considered for a career as a Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO), you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • You must be lawfully able to work in Canada;
  • You must be at least 18 years of age;
  • You must be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position, having regard to your own safety and the safety of members of the public;
  • You must meet prescribed vision standards;
  • You must be of good moral character and habits;
  • You must have successfully completed at least four years of secondary school education or its equivalent;
  • You require a good knowledge of security and law enforcement operations and principles or the ability to rapidly acquire this;
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule that includes various shifts in an outdoor environment

In addition, the Toronto Police Department requires that each candidate must:

  • Not have been convicted of a criminal offence for which a record suspension (formerly a pardon) has not been granted. If you have been convicted criminally under a federal statute (other than the Youth Criminal Justice Act), you must obtain a record suspension prior to submitting an application.   • must have strong written communication skills to effectively maintain memo books, prepare internal correspondence and various reports and forms as required

  • must successfully pass the medical assessment

  • must successfully obtain within qualifying period First Aid and CPR certification and a Toronto Police Service’s Blue Card (which qualifies a member to drive a police vehicle)

  • must be prepared to work in a high stress environment

  • must have good judgement and excellent interpersonal skills in order to handle difficult situations such, as irate citizens, crimes in progress, etc.
  • Candidates must successfully complete the Special Constable pre-interview tests, including Vision & Hearing, administered by Applicant Testing Services Inc. (ATS) to initiate the application process. An ATS Special Constable Test Results Profile (TRP) will normally be e-mailed to you within 3 - 5 business days after your test date.
  • Standard Vision and Hearing tests will be administered by ATS as part of the pre-interview testing process.
