Location: Richmond Hill, Ontario.  This is a Union position.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40; Scheduled Shifts: 12-Hour Rotational Shifts

Operational Hours: 24 Hours per Day, 7 Days per Week

Full-Time, Salary $39.22 - $42.63 per hour

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, Transit Enforcement, is responsible for enforcing the York Region and applicable local Municipal by-laws applicable to transit, the Criminal Code of Canada, and other related federal and provincial statutes on or in relation to all York Region Transit and affiliated properties, as well as providing customer service assistance and security protection to all York Region Transit patrons, equipment, and properties.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a two (2) year Community College program in Police Foundations or Law and Security or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of security or law enforcement experience.  Related experience in dealing with the public and enforcement procedures may be considered as alternate relevant experience.
  • Valid ATS Special Constable Test Result Profile (including vision and hearing) or Valid OACP Certificate of Results.
  • Valid Standard First Aid Level C and CPR certification.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Police Background Investigation for the purposes of obtaining Special Constable status.
  • Successful completion of the Special Constable training program.
  • Acceptable fitness requirements, as defined by the Constable Selection System, including minimum level of vision, hearing, motor skills, upper body strength, and cardio-vascular endurance.
  • Successful psychological testing, interview and assessment as defined by the Constable Selection System.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license in good standing.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including communication, innovation, teamwork and collaboration and personal ownership.
  • Ability to work in a computerized Windows environment including use of Microsoft Office applications, data entry, and keyboarding.
  • Ability to interpret and apply the Criminal Code of Canada, the York Region and applicable local Municipal by-laws applicable to Transit, and other related provincial and federal statutes.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exercise good judgment and discretion in dealing with general public.
  • Ability to work in all/extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
